What I Wish For the World

[Doodle For Google]

… we use plants for electricity

… we make college free for everyone

… we give health insurance to all who need it

… we connect everyone by cell phone or computer

Welcome to Doodle 4 Google, a competition where we invite K-12 students to play around with our homepage logo and see what new designs they come up with. This year we’re inviting U.S. kids to join in the doodling fun, around the intriguing theme “What I Wish for the World.”

These are exciting times and both our country and the world are on the brink of significant change. At Google we believe in thinking big, and dreaming big, and we can’t think of anything more important than encouraging students to do the same.

Registration closes at 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 17, 2009 and entries are due by 11:59:59 PM Pacific time on March 31, 2009. Teachers, you’ll find everything you need to get started on the Registration page. Only teachers or school employees should register. Parents or students who are interested should contact their teacher to register them.

What are the prizes for winners?

  • The National Winner will win a $15,000 college scholarship to be used at the school of their choice, a trip to the Google New York Office for an event on May 20, 2009, a laptop computer, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle. We’ll also award the winner’s school a $25,000 grant towards the establishment/improvement of a computer lab. The winning doodle will also be featured on the Google homepage on May 21, 2009.
  • Each of the other 3 National Finalists will win a trip to the Google New York Office, a laptop computer, and a t-shirt printed with their doodle.
  • Each of the other 36 Regional Winners will win a trip to the Google New York Office and a t-shirt printed with their doodle.
  • Each of the other 360 State Finalists will receive a “Doodle 4 Google” certificate.
Also, this year we’ve added a new District Quality Participation Prize in the amount of $10,000 to the school district that most encourages high-quality participation from its schools.

Design guidelines

  • If you are a parent or student, go ask your teacher to register your school. In the meantime, everything you need to start doodling is below.
  • The doodle should be presented on a white, landscape sheet of 8.5 x 11 inch paper.
You can download the Google logo template: Download PDF file or Download GIF file
The winning doodle will be displayed on the Google.com homepage, so the Google logo should be clearly visible and recognizable.
  • The doodle can be in pencil, crayons, felt tip or paint, or can be done using computer drawing or design software.
  • Unfortunately, we can’t accept entries which use additional materials to create 3D effects.
  • Please encourage your students to create original designs. Be inspired by Dennis Hwang, our original doodler – but don’t recreate his designs.

Laughing in the Face of Death I [‘Till I Cried]

leave a comment »

Well today in Honors english our class went to the library, right? We’re writing a paper on colleges and careers of our choice, alone or together, whatever we choose. Well Pooja shows me where the college books are, and a book on majors and such, and it’s like scaring the crap out of me. Her, too.

Opening the majors book, I found within the first five minutes the first several majors I looked up, couldn’t really be transitioned into many careers, unless you were teaching it or something. Theology, Philosophy, Peace Working, ect. of the same, and it said “Lol this can so totally apply to law and business, yo”. I was like “…”. No. For peace worker that would apply, but for all these other things I’m interested in, most aren’t really careers. So I look to the three careers I’d like to go into. First; an artist. First off art is the most overpopulated field out there, so it’s not exactly high in demand. Second, creative writing. Most writers out there can’t live off their own salary, so they take some day job for financial support, which means I’d have to live off artist, or the third one; film maker. Director probably, is the third, and that’s the kind of job that has opportunities. As for the other non career majors, I might want to be a teacher when I become older, a professor at a university or something. I think it fits me. 🙂

I cross-reference them next; artist and writing go into animation, and comic books/graphic novels, which is hard to get into. Writing and film go as a screenwriter, which I could do, but problem is films are so overrun with them these days. Then film and artist go to… well there’s photography, and also graphic designer. I’ve never tried photography I’m sad to say, and I’d rather not do graphic design; boring, boring, boring. So I’ve made no progress on that, and Pooja made even less.

She comes over and we start talking about what she should do for her paper. She thinks I would do well in radio. I joke about how several of the things I like aren’t even careers, suggesting she look up ones she’s remotely interested in. Her first choice is forensic, because of the show CSI, ha ha. Media and their influence. So we’re looking, with this terrifying future, in a nightmare called high school, about to jump into a crappy economy. Instead of working we go off on a tangent; we started telling stories about all these interests, and college jokes and thoughts, and all that ish. She’s not sure where she wants to go, or what she wants to do. I was thinking USC, NYU, Cincinatti Art Academy, places like that. All three are really artsy. Soon we get off that too.

We start sharing about school activities we do. I mention Debate team, and I tell her probably the funniest story I have, about how I got into Debate Team and why I’ve never gone back. I couldn’t get through it, I was crying from laughing so hard, and so was she, and I just barely finish it with a gasp. Oh man, that was the funniest crap ever. You guys reading this have to ask me about that, my god, ha ha ha ha ha, you’ll understand why I’ve never gone to a meet.

And it just went on like that, we settled down, my eyes red from crying and laughing so much, and melllow out for the rest of the time, talking about TV shows. This paper was just too much for me to deal with atm, with me anxious for anything that might happen on Valentines Day. It was good, laughing was just what I needed right now. That was the hardest I’ve laughed since Juna’s joke about Finding Nemo and the economy in Speech, lol.

Anyway,

Wheeeee.

😀

My Song of the Week [February 4th – 15th]

leave a comment »

Winner:

Why: I love acoustic guitar songs, and while I can enjoy the more ambient, new age ones, I still love the passion driven songs more. This is one of those. Starting off with a sweetly written intro, it speaks of hope and the need for every human to somehow connect to god, and how our past and future selves can conflict with this need.

Soon after two minutes of melody, Joseph bursts out into an epic, emotional ballad that really got me. Continuing over itself throughout the course of this song, I’ve been repeating it for the past hour. I just love it, it’s amazing. Song of the week for me.

How I found it: Actually a few weeks back I bought the Scrubs Soundtrack Volume 2, and I just started really listening to it recently. The soundtrack had some artists I’ve never heard of before, that I really like, so it’s a good resource to start branching out.

Rating: A

Runner up:

Why: At first I did not like this song at all. But after hearing it live at the Grammies, it sounded better live, and I really loved the drums they used for it. So, I went back this song and gave it another listen, and I almost missed this great piece. I guess their stuff just has to grow on you.

It’s pretty creative and original sounding, the stuff on this album is not like anything I’ve heard before, and it has this tribal drum like sound that gets to me. Lyrics are well written and the way they’re sung fit in with the feeling and texture of this music. It’s not dragged out, it keeps it at a fast tempo and ends it at the right time. I like it a lot.

How I found it: My dad already has this album and I got it there, but I started listening to it after the Grammies. Probably their intent, huh.

Scrubs: “My Comedy Show” Review [S08 Ep10]

leave a comment »

n639177754_2064674_4045My Comedy Show

Season 8 Episode 10

After JD;s absence, we’re treated with another really funny episode with great writing. For the last few episodes we haven’t seen the interns, but now they’re back along with a new one. It’s full of “Bromance” between JD & Turk, and thankfully Ed is staying fired.

There were a lot of great parts in this episode. One part was how it’s been doing a good job writing stories that involve both the older staff and the new interns. There’s a new interne who’s clearly meant to be a supporting character to Denice, and everything between those two is pretty funny. There’s a comedy show every year at Sacred Heart, in which the interns impersonate members of staff that have been there for a while. It even had a flashback of Lavergne, which I was really happy to see! Denice’s and Sunny’s impression of JD & Turk was priceless, I died. But the cool thing about it was that it really made the point, that JD & Turk would always be in their little “Bromance”, not caring about what others think, which is another story in the end of the series, that’s wrapping up their relationship. Another cool aspect of this was Denice. Now she’s my personal favorite intern, because she seems to have the most potential to be written as a great character. She makes progress! Her beginning to change into a warmer person, after seeing herself in another patient, was human.

There weren’t many faults. It’s not as funny as it was during it’s glory years, but that can’t be helped. It still makes me laugh out loud a lot, and that’s a million times more than five seasons of The Office can make me laugh. Ugh.

Overall, a very funny and strong episode. This is the funny heart of the series, and it only has 8 episodes left until it stops beating. 😦

Scrubs: “My Absence” Review [S08 Ep09]

leave a comment »

n639177754_2064647_8329My Absence

Season 8 Episode 9

This is what the show will be like after Zach Braff leaves

It’s true. As much as we might think it would be forced, Scrubs will probably run for another season. Zach Braff has already said this will be his last year, but because of the large fanbase and lack of creativity in Hollywood these days, it’s likely they’ll want to milk this series on further. But that’s not necessarily a bad thing, even without JD in it, it’s still a pretty good show, entertaining and well written characters. Yet JD is what makes Scrubs such a special show, and this episode almost seems to be foreshadowing for fans, what it will be like when his character leaves.

My Absence was the weakest episode this season has had so far. It’s better than most comedies out there still, but it’s really lacking it’s special touch, whom of course is JD. He’s out on vacation in this one, which proves even further the writers aren’t sure what to do with these characters anymore. First Carla leaves, then Turk, then JD. With JD on vacation, we do get to see something good here; it’s sort of forshadowing the breakup between JD & Elliot. Elliot says that ever since they were back together, she’s been so dependent on him, and that she’s sort of reverting back to her old self from seasons ago. But she’s doing it to be close to JD. This was the better part of the episode in story. The part with Turk & Carla, not so much. They’re having another baby, something to see in possible season 9, but Carla doesn’t want people to know. He tells one person, Ted’s new girlfriend, and she gets mad at him for doing so, even though she was doing the same thing? What’s the point of this? Carla meanwhile, got a character trait forced on here. Almost always this series is excellent at writing characters, but this was one episode where they dropped the ball. It talked about how she doesn’t care about patients as much as she used to. That’s all well and fine, and the explanation as being a nurse for so long is good, but the only problem is she was doing the opposite just a few episodes ago. It was a good idea, but it was too fast.

Then JD. He stills gives his narration at the end, but his fantasies were missing, and his inner thoughts were really what made the show feel personal. Even with him gone I still liked it, but it made me realize how much I’m gonna miss this character when he leaves. 😦

Overall, a subpar episode.

Heroes: “Building 26” Preview [S03 Ep16]

n639177754_2060663_1952

BUILDING 26 ->> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HT_xuXurzaM

Official Description:

THE BEST LAID PLANS OF NATHAN PETRELLI OFTEN GO AWRY
Nathan’s (Adrian Pasdar) plans face exposure as Homeland Security begins an investigation under direct orders from the President of the United States. Sylar (Zachary Quinto) and Luke (guest Dan Byrd) embark on a road trip to find Sylar’s father, but are secretly being hunted by Nathan’s agents. Life gets complicated for the Bennet family as Claire (Hayden Panettiere) goes into action to protect a young man with abilities (guest star Justin Baldoni) from being captured by HRG (Jack Coleman). Elsewhere, Matt’s (Greg Grunberg) prophetic images lead Hiro (Masi Oka) and Ando (James Kyson Lee) to India and a mysterious ally comes to the aid of our Heroes.
Ashley Crow, Randall Bentley and Amrapali Ambegaokar also guest star.

Here are some theories of what’s to come for this volume:

1) The guy who texted Claire was Micah/Peter/New dude

This is one of those theories that’s obviously true. There was no confirmation, but out of the all the powers we know of Micah’s is currently the only one that’s an electric device medium. Some thought that the girl from season 1 with powers similar to Micah may have texted Claire, but if you go back and read the Heroes comic book, you will see that woman died to destroy the satellite with the Isotope tracker, in season 1.

There’s also Peter, but I’d much rather believe they’re making Monica & Micah useful, unlike in season 2. And there’s also this new guy, that yo u might have seen talking to Claire in the previews, whom maybe contacted her.

If Micah’s coming back though, then Monica will be too, and it’ll be very interesting seeing how these two will add to the story.

2) Daphne’s Not Dead!

Last time we saw Daphne, she was shot multiple times in Truth And Blood. Daphne dying out of nowhere was definitely one of the stupidest things this series has ever done. With great relief, it’s been rumored that her name is in future episode descriptions. Matt will be acting for Daphne, because he thinks she’s dead, so it’ll be cool to see what happens to Matt’s character.

Not really a rumor but you get it.

3] In future episode Cold Snap Tracy Strauss will die

Ali Larter as you know, has been busy working with Beyonce on her new movie. Because of this business, Ali Larter has asked Tim Kring to kill off her character. Weird if you ask me, the movie will be over soon, but it was her choice. When she asked Tim to do this, and whether or not he agreed to go for it, is unconfirmed. However due to the title Cold Snap, it may be Tracy’s snap and final hooray before her death.

4] When Hiro & Ando go to India, they will encounter the Dream Boy

If you’ve seen season 1 then you’ll remember the boy who’s powers functioned like a spirit guide, and he served as a character critical to Mohinder’s character, and was the reason he went back to America, which in turned allowed him to cure Molly, who found Peter. If it wasn’t for him Peter would have collapsed and not been found, probably blowing up NYC with no one to stop him. With the next episode, Hiro & Ando journey to restore Hiro’s powers, following Parkman’s drawings to India. Will this boy help him find his inner self, to restore his powers? Will he bring Hiro back in his memories, to some critical element we missed, to tell us how he can get his powers back?

Since Micah & Monica are definitely coming back, I’d love to see the Dream Boy come back too.

5] What the f**k ever happened to Molly Walker?

One element that has to come into play here, and better, is Molly Walker’s power. We know that she was given up to a random agency by Matt & Mohinder, to protect her. But since the government is being a tard, they’re gonna wanna hunt this girl down. She’s the checkmate character actually; she could determine which side wins or loses based on who finds her first.

Hopefully she won’t be ignored like that boring Irish chick whom was lost in some time limbo.

Clone Wars Gets a Second Season [Yay]

leave a comment »

n639177754_2056510_754February 9, 2009 – What cartoon ranks #1 in its time slot and #1 with all boy demos all across the board? That’s right…it’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars! And that kind of over-achieving gets rewarded with a second season.

In a press release today, Cartoon Network announced that it has picked up SW:TCW for Season 2. “Star Wars: The Clone Wars is like nothing else on television and has delivered for us on all levels,” said Stuart Snyder, President/COO Turner Animation, Young Adults & Kids Media. “It has helped us launch a great new night of action-adventure on Fridays and build on our dominance with boys.”

– Cartoon Network
“We’re trying to push the envelope even further in the second season,” said George Lucas. “In the features, I focused on telling the story of the Skywalker family. With The Clone Wars I’m exploring far beyond that and we barely scratched the surface in the first season. It’s exciting to be able to take people to all these new places in the Star Wars galaxy.”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’m glad it’s getting renewed. It started off decent, but it’s turned out to be a pretty solid series in it’s own right. Except all those haters out there, that fawn over every little detail to no end, but you know how they’re like.

Excited?
